Men As Learners and ElderS

M.A.L.E.S. Ireland is a group of men dedicated to promoting healthy spirituality

Our work is heavily influenced by Richard Rohr’s Mens Rites of Passage

We are a group of men dedicated to the promotion of a strong and healthy male spirituality. We invite all men to join us on this great and mysterious journey towards a mature masculine spirituality. We affirm and support men seeking a life long connection with spiritual consciousness in order to transform themselves, and through their life experiences, their relationships, families, workplaces, communities and our environment.

Many men in today’s society struggle to find meaning and purpose in their lives. Our programmes, events and resources provide men with opportunities to do their ‘inner work’ in the company of other men. We use ritual, teaching and other ways of communicating to create safe environments where men can explore and discover their deeper selves and the true purpose of their lives.

Men drumming to initiate council

Many groups of men around the world hold M.R.O.P. events. We stay connected with each other, and work with each other to spread our message as far as we can. The M.R.O.P began in the 90s with Richard Rohr in Ghost Ranch, Texas. Our Irish brothers hold an M.R.O.P. every second year, and have impacted many men from across the globe. We’re growing, and excited to be hosting Ireland’s first ever Y.M.R.O.P. in 2024.

We are men transforming men through a power greater than ourselves. Our primary concern is inner work that makes a difference in the world. We are fed by the wisdom traditions of forgiveness and radical inclusivity. Our work recovers traditional patterns of male initiation, affirms a masculine path to healing, reveals the true and false self and honours the path of descent or letting go. We do this through the power of ritual, image, story and council.

The M.R.O.P. first came to Ireland in 2009. Since then we've grown to hundreds of men.

Throughout the country we run local groups and retreats all throughout the year.
